    Religion and Flyovers

Something this country probably won't be having soon.

Currently, one of the biggest issues of the city I live in is one regarding an argument over building flyovers or opting for road widening. Personally, I certainly feel that this city needs a good general expansion of the road systems. Widening of two lane side roads to convert them into somewhat more mainstream passages might come a long way to decongest the traffic that is slowly growing like an insidious tumor over many areas, and over at my area especially. Of course, seeing that our 4-lane roads aren't doing a stellar job at relieving bumper to bumper dances (and neither are the canal system and the flash floods helping), but enough about that. What's more interesting is how religious group react to such issues and the things they're willing to do to hinder public good when it involves them.

If the local news haven't informed you, there is a heated debate with associated poo flinging between which among the two possible solutions gets implemented. One of the two proposed sites involves a so called heritage religious landmark which means someone's lot is gonna get a little shaved off. That's a given compromise if it means making a difference for the people. So, here's my funny little story for today. I attended a mass in the said heritage site and right before the part where the priest says to go away, here comes this unusual message that goes "we would like to share our comments, feelings and negative reactions with you regarding the proposed flyover" or something veeery similar and then proceeds to play, get this, a short film that portrays bad images of flyovers and images of the local anti-flyover rallyists with a reaaaally cheesy song whose lyrics are about flyovers and how useless they are, and then asks for our prayers and to join a novena asking for renewed guidance for the leaders involved in this flyover business. Seriously.

No offense to God and all, but damn, that was seriously pathetic. and very selfish. Projects like these are meant for the public good, and all they can think about is their gate, wall, guard house, a few parking slots and a nearby church extension. Relatively small price to pay really for a lifetime costs of the people who will probably suffer rush hour in that area. Petrol, time, probably somebody's life in emergency cases maybe? Perfectly reasonable forecasting, yes? After all, nuns are still human and humans are selfish. Not certainly role model material. Hoho just my 2 cents, really.

Oh, and road expansion doesn't shave your lot at all.
